In this instance it is important to match colours and genders. The starting birds, but be Light Cuckoo Rooster and a Black Mottled Hen, it will not work the other way round.

Gen x. - Year 1 - Idearly you want to start with Light Cuckoo & Black Mottled. You can also Start with Dark Cuckoo males, but you would also produce black split mottled in that cross.
Gen 1. - Year 2 - You may have to wait till maturity to distinguish the mottled and mottled carriers, though yu should get your Cuckoo Mottleds in this generation.
Gen 2. - Year 3 - Light Cuckoo Mottled x Cuckoo Mottled breed pure.
Alternatively using Dark Cuckoo Mottled x Cuckoo Mottled produces Black Mottled, Cuckoo Mottled Females and Dark Cuckoo Mottled, Light Cuckoo Mottled Males. if you want a breeding group that produces more of a mix of chicks.
